about

Broz Rowland was approached late-nineties by Dan Stafford to cut a demo of some songs he had written. The second he heard Dan sing his first few lines into the mic he knew he wanted to sign him to a production deal! Four weeks later, they were ninety per cent finished with this album--Angels Whisper.

What followed is one more sad tale in the annals of the music industry.

As Broz was returning to Denver from a tape shopping trip to NYC, to happily report he had interest from several labels, Dan was incarcerated for drug related charges and heading to Lincoln Nebraska to spend a year in jail. The band (aka "The Dreamers") were those friends and studio musicians that Broz was working with to record the Rowland Brothers "no sleep for the dreamers" CD--a project halfway through completion when he met Dan. The band was stymied, non-plussed and devastated, to say the least.

When Dan was released, a year and a half later, his father had passed away and his girlfriend was now living in Phoenix. He visited Broz in Denver to check in and re-ignite some fires, before heading off to join her. Broz told Dan he needed a few months to wrap up his current projects. He was in fact jazzed to resume the Dreamers project, but not quite sure how they would proceed.

They tried to work long distance but that took forever. And then approximately two and a half years from the day that the magic you can hear on this record started, Rowland got news that Dan had passed away from a toxic reaction to medication given to him in a rehab clinic--that Dan had voluntarily checked himself into to try and lick his alchohol-related depression.

The Dreamers, sadly, were apparently not fated to be.

Well, other than this record that is.

Check it out and see if you don't consider their demise as much a tragedy as we do.
